Scientists are seeking Earth-sized planets as potential homes for extraterrestrial life, said Fressin, who reports the new findings in a paper published online yesterday by the journal Nature.

One planet's diameter is only 3 per cent larger than Earth's, while the other's diameter is about nine-tenths that of Earth. They appear to be rocky, like our planet.

But they are too hot to contain life as we know it, with calculated temperatures of about 1,400 degrees and 800 degrees Fahrenheit (760 Celsius and 425 Celsius), he said. Any life found on another planet may not be intelligent; it could be bacteria or mold or some completely unknown form.

Fight about Bhagavad Gita in Russia

New Delhi: The outrage continues to grow against possible banning of Hindu’s holy scripture Bhagavad Gita in Russia. The proposed ban of Gita in Russia has ignited protest on the social media even as trial verdict nears.
Amidst the demand of the Opposition for declaring the holy scripture as the National Book, scores of netizens took to Twitter to express their shock and anger.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar commented on Twitter: “Banning Bhagavad Gita in Russia is an unpardonable loss for the people of Russia.”
"The move to ban 'Bhagavad Gita' shows intolerance; it is intolerance that is the reason for terrorism and not 'Bhagavad Gita,” he tweeted.
“Bhagavad Gita begins with word Dharma n ends with Mama. Entire Gita is nothing but Mama Dharma (My Dharma); that which uplifts life,” his tweets read.
Noted lyricist Javed Akhtar expressed his shock over the Gita facing ban in Russia. “Banning Gita ? Have they lost their minds. This great book of wisdom belongs not only to Hindus but to the whole humanity,” he tweeted.
His tweet was followed by comments like: “Please read Gita so you don't misquote it.”
MP Naveen Jindal also took to the social media in expressing his views on the recent controversy. “I welcome the statement by the Russian ambassador to India condemning the Bhagavad Gita controversy.”
JD leader Subramanian Swamy wrote on Twitter: “Happy to inform that Russian Ambassador will tell my daughter on TV that he is a student of Gita and Russia will rectify matters soon. Ok?”
Bollywood celebrity, Farah Ali Khan also retweeted: “The Russians have banned the Gita. In retaliation let's ban something equally sacrosanct to them: vodka.”
More than 20,000 people signed an online petition against the trial and the word Gita continued to be at the top of Indian trends on Twitter on Wednesday.

Supermassive black hole will 'eat' gas cloud

Researchers have spotted a giant gas cloud spiralling into the supermassive black hole at our galaxy's centre.
Though it is known that black holes draw in everything nearby, it will be the first chance to see one consume such a cloud.
As it is torn apart, the turbulent area around the black hole will become unusually bright, giving astronomers a chance to learn more about it.
The cloud, which is described in Nature, should meet its end in 2013.
Researchers using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope estimate that despite its size, the cloud has a total mass of only about three times that of Earth.
They have plotted the cloud's squashed, oval-shaped path and estimate it has doubled its speed in the last seven years - to 2,350km per second.
It should spiral in to within about 40 billion kilometres of the black hole in the middle of 2013.

Simulations suggest that the cloud will be ripped to bits and partially swallowed by the black hole

Astrophysicists now have a snapshot of a rare event for the first time: a black hole eating its cold and dusty dinner. Pictured is the center of our universe where the Sgr A* (pronounced Sagittarius A star) black hole is gobbling up a ball of dust three times the size of the Earth.
